PROJECT Messenger
The Sky is the Limit
Where it all started |
Project Messenger was the first collegiate rocket project ever commissioned at the City College of New York. Assembled in January of 2016 to compete in the 11th Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) in Green River, Utah. |
Project Messenger is oriented around sounding rocket and recovery systems design and deployment. The project pursues this mission via the design of the CUNY Experimental (CX) Series sounding rockets. |

CX-Series Characteristics
The idea behind the CX series rockets is simple: To build robust airframe rockets that will reliably launch and recover, every time. The general design characteristics of the CX - Series are:
- Commercial off the shelf (COTS) Solid Rocket Motor
- Non-pyrotechnic Parachute Deployment
- Attitude-Triggered Recovery Systems
- Wood, Fiberglass, and Phenolic Solid-Tube Construction
- Versatile Electronics Test Bed
