Project Aries - Just the Beginning

Summary

Founded in October of 2016 as CCNY's first rocket engine design project, Project Aries is the most technically ambitious student-led project ever attempted at CCNY.

Aries has been designing the G-3 paraffin wax - nitrous oxide hybrid rocket engine for the past several years. The project has made sporadic progress as engineers met the unique challenges of hybrid rocket engine design for the first time.

The audacity of Project Aries was the principle reason Harlem Launch Alliance Inc. was founded as a student-run not-for-profit company.

Project Aries - A Relaunch

Starting in Fall of 2019, Aries was temporarily suspended and the HLA launched Crash Course: Hybrid Rocket Engine Design, to train a new generation of Aries engineers.

The Project was downsized, it's technical goals better defined and will be re-launched in January 2020 as a project with far better technical documentation, clearer lines of communication and accountability and a manufacturing-oriented design approach that seeks to get a finalized design by the end of Summer 2020.

Getting Involved

Project Aries is demanding project. Unlike Project Messenger which works within rules and guidelines set by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association, the goals, design guides, and deadlines are set entirely by the students of the HLA. This is truly a student-run project. As such it requires dedication, a questioning attitude and slightly more experience than Project Messenger. See below for the current organization.
